Anyway, eventually, the killing of the blue-eyed babies was given force of law. There had obviously been opposition—some of us pointed out that you could not make lawful a crime by legalising it—but most people still believed in ‘parliamentary sovereignty’ and that the checks and balances would make sure this legislation was never passed.
