A Critical Examination of Contemporary forms of Policing in the UK
I wrote this essay in 2021. In light of recent discussion about the use of modelling or pre-crime methods being used in policing in the USA, and also the rise in use of the AI in policing and the Courts, I thought it would be good to dust it off, make a few tweaks, and let it see the light of day. I have not done research to update the statistics and comment on Community Policing today, because I think we all know that our communities are struggling and many feel that the police are contributing to this. The problems I have described regarding immorality and order-following persist - in the police and the public more generally, and the solutions to those problems are timeless. In this essay I signpost to the fundamental knowledge which must be gained by all of us if we are to evolve.
