Before anyone starts the usual chest-thumping about corporations and capitalism, try doing one adult piece of homework: look at what governments have been quietly taking away from you.
The jury.
In England, civil juries have already been shoved into the historical cupboard. In the US, “trial by jury” is increasingly a slogan you see on a textbook cover while real disputes get diverted into bench trials, plead-outs, or administrative corridors where the public never gets a seat. There is a reason for that, and it’s not subtle. A jury is the one part of the system that doesn’t belong to the professional class. It’s the voice of ordinary people saying, “we’re the final backstop on what counts as fair.” Remove that, and power slides upward to the state and its pet experts….
